The mission of the Indiana State University (ISU) Community School of the Arts (CSA) is to provide high quality learning experiences in the performing and fine arts to persons of all ages, economic circumstances, and ability levels throughout the Wabash Valley of West Central Indiana.
The CSA, sponsored by the Departments of Art and Theater and the School of Music, is the only comprehensive educational outreach of its kind in Indiana, and one of a very few in the United States. The CSA provides hands-on arts-learning experiences for infants through senior citizens in the Wabash Valley and surrounding areas while providing ISU students who are majoring in the arts outstanding opportunities for experiential learning through teaching. The CSA falls under the umbrella of Indiana State's University Engagement Division.
Though there are many stand-alone community music, theater and visual art schools, a central comprehensive arts school at a university such as Indiana State is rare. The CSA is a model for other universities in the United States, transforming the Wabash Valley and surrounding areas by providing high quality arts experiences to the community.
