Music Classes For Kids

Children enrolling in music classes need no prior experience. 

My First Piano Camp
Ages: 5-7

Dates & Time: June 6 -10 (Monday through Friday)

1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

This camp is designed for children who are considering starting piano lessons. Throughout the week, students will use songs, games, and hands-on activities to learn musical basics that prepare them for lessons. Students will also learn the basics of music notation and the keyboard in a fun, activity-based format. This class is for students who are ready to learn about music in a friendly, group environment! The week culminates with a demonstration for friends and family.

Ages: 8-12

Music for Time Travelers: The History of Pop

Ages:12 and up

Dates & Time: June 20-24 (Monday through Friday)

Instructor: Diyombu Muyumba

Time Travelers explores the history of pop music, emphasizing primarily the period between
1955-2016. Discussion focuses on identifying a variety of pop-music styles within the historical context of the development, transformation, and interaction of pop styles. Students will learn about the evolution of Pop through various media, starting with The Beatles to Adele and beyond.


Garage Band: Sound Mixing

Ages: 12 and up

Dates & Time: June 27 - July 1 (Monday through Friday)

10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Students will use Pro Tools and Garage Band to learn the recording process. Learning basics such as how studio recording equipment works (such as microphones and midi keyboards), students will discover how to mix and edit on audio workstations. Students will participate in session recording classes where they will lay down tracks and receive a CD with their completed work at the end of the class.

 

Hand Drumming and Percussion Techniques

Ages: 11 and up

Dates & Time: June 27 – July 1 (Monday through Friday)

3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

This is an interactive-based class focusing on the basics of rhythm, pulse, and musical creativity.  Students will learn how to play a variety of percussion instruments such as hand drums, shakers, tambourines, woodblocks, and many more!  

 

Sing and Dance!

MINI-CAMP

Ages: 7-11  

Dates & Time: July 5-8 (Tuesday through Friday)

3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Final Performance: July 8, 4:00 p.m., Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts, Recital Hall

Have fun singing and dancing to your favorite popular songs! This camp focuses on basic vocal skills, choreography and performing, along with fun musical games. Everyone gets the chance to be a star! Students participate in a performance on the last day of class.

 

Percussion and Rhythm

Ages: 5-8

Dates & Time: July 11-15  (Monday through Friday)

This class focuses on teaching students how pulse correlates to drumming on various percussion instruments. It is an interactive-based class focusing on the basics of rhythm, pulse, and musical creativity. Students will learn how to play a variety of percussion instruments such as hand drums, shakers, tambourines, and blocks and use them to create their own call-and-response songs.
