Instructors


Nancy Bernal is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis on music education. Her hometown is Saint John, Indiana where she graduated form Lake Central High School in May 2012. Bernal is currently the visual designer and instructor as well as the bass drum tech for the Crawfordsville High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble. She will also work with Crawfordsville and Terre Haute South High Schools this summer for their 2015 marching seasons. Bernal has been under the instruction of staff members from legacy Indoor Percussion where she auditioned and was given a spot on the cymbal line for the 2015 season. In 2014, she marched in the Phantom Regiment Horn Line and in the fall, Bernal marched in the bass line with the Indiana State University Marching Sycamores. This summer, Bernal is teaching Indoor Drum Line and Private Horn Lessons.

Nathaneal Canfield is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education.

Sarah Cole is an ISU Department of Art and Design student. Cole began creating visual art at a young age and maintained her interest throughout high school, participating in 4-H and community exhibits in her hometown of Mount Summit, Indiana. In 2009, Cole enrolled at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to pursue a degree in Studio Arts and K-12 Education. In 2012, she curated her solo thesis exhibit of 20 pieces at The Woods. In 2013, Cole received her degree from the Woods and passed all state exams to receive her teaching license in the state of Indiana. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting at Indiana State University. She also assists in the Art Department of Indiana State, teaching a studio class each semester. This summer, Cole is teaching Let's Be Creative, Art is Cool, Pop Art Superheroes, Young Artists at Work, Discover Your Talents, Dry Media: Charcoal and Pastel, Creative Writing and Art Workshops, Acrylic Workshops,

Sean Cook is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education. Graduating from Avon High School, he participated in the Avon High School Marching Black and Gold and Avon "World" Drum Line. Cook competed in such events as BOA (Bands of America), WGI (Winter Guard International), IPA (Indiana Percussion Association) and ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) where he has helped to win 3 consecutive BOA national championships, 4 ISSMA and IPA state championships, 2 BOA Indy regional championships and 5th and 9th place at WGI. Cook is currently a member of the Indiana Pacers/Indy 500 "High Octane" Drum line sponsored by McDonalds, Pearl and On2 percussion. He participates in Indiana State Wind Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, and Marching Band. Through the Indiana State Community School of the Arts, Cook teaches private drum set lessons, and "Rock Band" and "Rock Camp" for high school children. He hopes to one day "take a music program and make it nationally recognized." This summer, Cook will be teaching percussion privately, Indoor Drum Line and Rock Camp.

Wenqian Hu is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education.

Abigail Layer is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education. She graduated from Lowell High School, where she participated in marching band, jazz band, pepe band, pit orchestra and solo and ensemble, and also taught private lessons. Today, Layer is currently a member in Kappa Kappa Psi, a music service fraternity, a member of the Honors Council, the president of the NAfME chapter on campus and a Service Learning Scholar. She also participates in the Wind Orchestra and the marching band at ISU.  She one day hopes to teach at a high school and spread the joy and love of music to all. This summer, Layer will be teaching clarinet privately.

Christopher McCammon is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education. He has studied saxophone with Dr. Paul and Scotty Stepp.  While at Indiana State, McCammon has served as Saxophone Seciton Leader with the Marching Sycamores and was appointed a Drum Major for the Marching Sycamores in Fall 2014. He has been recognized by the ISU School of Music for outstanding excellence in leadership. In Addition, Pi Kappa Lambda, National honorary Music Fraternity, has recognized McCammon for his excellence in his academic studies. He is a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance. This summer, McCammon will be teaching saxophone and Sycamore Drum Major Clinic.


Derek Meeker is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education. Meeker has studied classical and jazz guitar with Brent McPike since 2009. He has been active in guitar ensembles, jazz combos and solo work, consisting of classical and jazz guitar repertorie. Meeker holds a B.M. in Music Performance from Indiana State University.  This summer, Meeker will be teaching The Terre Haute Guitar Club for Ages 5-8, The Terre Haute Guitar Club for Ages 9-12, The Terre Haute Guitar Club for Ages 13 & up, Young Artists At Work! Art Sampler, Discover Your Talents! Art Sampler, and Rock Camp.

Matthew Moody is an ISU School of Music student, with an emphasis in music education.
